David Hill  

David is a lecturer in ecology & conservation at the University of Sussex. He studied Japanese Macaques before becoming fascinated by the ecology of British & Japanese bats. He is currently testing the Sussex AutoBat, an acoustic lure that greatly improves the chances of detecting particular bat species.

Frank Greenaway

Frank is a world-renowned bat expert, having studied them for the last 25 years. He runs the scientific photography section of the Natural History Museum in London. His specialities include high-speed events, wildlife behavioural series, macro photography and specialist book illustration.
Stephanie Murphy Stephanie is currently investigating the function of social calls in Brown Long-Eared bats (Plecotus auritus) for a DPhil research degree. She has also completed a study on radio-tracking and habitat use of sympatric Brown Long-Eared and Bechstein's bats.
Past Members of the Team
Patrick Fitzsimons Patrick has just finished a DPhil research degree testing the Automated Ultrasound Recorder(AUR), and its applications in bat research & conservation. He also spent a summer radio-tracking the rare Bechstein's bat (Myotis bechsteinii).
Jon Flanders Jon surveyed Bechstein's bat maternity roost trees and the surrounding habitat.
Chris Durrant Chris studied the population dynamics of Bechstein's bat in the south of England for his MPhil.

Third year projects

Every year, a few students on Biology & the Environmental Sciences degree course have the chance to study some aspect of bat ecology.
