My theoretical research focuses on two main areas.

The first of these has to do with factors that control the rate of evolution. Within this area, I am particularly interested in the evolution of sex, the evolution of mating systems, and the accumulation of mutations that affect fitness.

The second area relates to the evolution of social behaviour. Within this second area I am particularly interested in the way that social behaviour coevolves with factors that control population structure.

In carrying out my theoretical work, I pay special attention to the effects of environmental heterogeneity and local resource dynamics.

My other research interests include cultural evolution in humans and other animals, microbial evolution, and the origin of life....
