I'm responsible for research computing within the University and manage our HPC cluster, an infiniband interconnected system with 80TB of Lsutre scratch space and 700 or so cores.
Contact me if you want access to our HPC cluster, if you have large datasets that you need to store or analyse or other research computing issues.
I lead for ITS on Information Security policy development and risk mitigation.
I'm an active trade union member of Unite - I was chair of the Trades Union Liaison Committee (Unite, UNISON and UCU) and the union side chair the Joint Negotiating Committee that resulted in the Framework Agreement. For 30 years I attend Senate as the Unite observer and was elected by the non-academic staff to membership of the University Council, standing down in 2010 after the maximum term. You can find out more about Council, including Agendas and Minutes from the Secretariat pages.
Now that I'm less busy with governance issues I can spend much more time with Amateur Radio (callsign G3XDK) and family.
My hobbies include the University of Sussex Amateur Radio club G4AQG hill walking and Glyndebourne.
